What is most important - Education or experience - to write awesome content for estate agency?
What do you value most - education or experience?
Of course, education means you've been taught, know the theory and have the certificates to prove it.
But, we've all met those newly graduated employees with outstanding grades. Their lack of hands-on experience can mean that it can take time before their work becomes effective.
So, is having experience more important than having a certificate?
I ask this because you may currently know me as a writer specialising in working with estate agents.
You might not know why I specialise in working with estate agents.
It's because I am one.
In fact, this is my USP.
The majority of writers that write for this industry can not say that they have worked as an agent.
They can learn the various elements of buying or selling a property, but do they understand the pressures of BEING an agent?
Sure they can research topics for the blog posts, but do they understand the intricacies of marketing an estate agency?
Do they really get it?
Do they understand who you are trying to attract to your company?
Content marketing, used correctly, can bring in a constant stream of new vendor leads, but the posts need to have that in mind.
Truthfully, the best person to create your content is you.
But, whilst the phone doesn't stop ringing, there are viewings to accompany, and a solicitor has just called to say there is a massive problem with a transaction and an entire chain is about to collapse. How are you possibly going to fit in time to write a blog?
I've been there.
Outsourcing this task is the next best thing.
But can anyone really understand the nuts and bolts of the industry if they've never done it?
Because let's be honest, most of us can write. And content marketing isn't supposed to be war and peace. It's supposed to be written in a colloquial style that's easy to read.
Simple, straightforward language in an easy to digest format.
So, no, I don't have a degree in English (just an A-level), but I do have almost 20 years of experience at the coal face of estate agency.
During my 20 year career, I founded my own company, at the age of 22, in the middle of a global property recession.
I managed to grow and develop that business, winning numerous awards and quickly becoming the market leader in my area. I disrupted the agents in my town and embraced new innovations and techniques.
But most importantly, I learned how to market my business, grow my company, and attract those all-important sellers and landlords to use my agency.
I've lived, worked and hustled to make that business work (and it's still super successful!)
And now, I channel that knowledge and experience into the content and copy I create for my clients.
So you see, whilst I could write for any business, estate agents are my jam.
I resonate with agents and understand their needs and struggles.
I know what is needed to draw sellers and landlords to your company.
I know how to promote your agency in a way that appeals to sellers and landlords.
I know that agency terminology and sales jargon is the fastest way to put off a new prospect.
And I understand marketing and how to harness it to maximise new leads into your company.
So, if you are thinking of outsourcing the content for your estate agency, make sure that you use someone who knows exactly who your target reader is.
