Content strategy essentials to boost your business!
Have you ever had a business pop up on your social media, out of nowhere, that you have not heard of before?
If their post interested you, you likely tried to find out more about them.
Most people will begin their customer journey with a new (to them) business by doing a little online research.
Once you have googled the brand name and found their website, you will most likely read the 'about' section to learn a little more about them.
What do they do?
What do they sell?
Who are they?
How did the business come about?
What do they stand for or believe in?
You are doing this because you are trying to see if this business fits you.
Do your values align?
Do you like what they are about?
Do you like their products?
If your values align with this company, you may stay on the website a little longer and have a browse, possibly heading to the blog page.

But what if they have not updated this page for months?
It feels a little disappointing.
As if they have no news to share.
They have nothing to say to you, the customer.
The trail of research on your customer journey has gone cold.
You may look at the products they are selling or give their social media pages a like, but you are not fully converted.
A blog page on your website that hasn't been updated for months is just sad.
It can also affect your google ratings if your site is not regularly updated.
Most people will research a company before they contact them for the first time. When researching a new company, it is often the about us and the blog page they will visit to get a feel for the company.
If your blog page has not been updated for a few months, they may think that you are not in business anymore? Or that you started something but couldn't be bothered to keep it up.
Consistency is the key.

If you post regularly, consistently interested content, your customers will have something to draw them into you.
Create content that is 'evergreen', meaning that it is not seasonal or date sensitive.
Breaking news pieces are only breaking news on that day. Changes in legislation or industry updates are only relevant to that day. After that, it is not really 'news', and you wouldn't repost again in a few months.
Content marketing is a way to show your customers what you do, how you do it and why.
You can show how you make your products or answer questions about how to use them.
You could give ideas about how to present your products in the home.
Perhaps, if you are a florist, you could write content about the best flowers to pair together in a bouquet or how to achieve a particular look when making a wreath.
Evergreen content can be reused, recycled and reposted forever, so you really make the most of the content you have created.
It will also give you plenty of material to post on your social media pages to keep your feed fresh and exciting.
So, show your blog page some love and keep it consistently updated, at least once a fortnight, not only posting once in a blue moon.
Because, if you have nothing to say, then no one will listen!
