How to keep on having ideas for new content

I know what it is like.

You start off marketing your business with vigour and enthusiasm.

You are posting everyday creative, funny, exciting content.

You see a slight increase in sales. Yes, it is working!

Things are going well.

Then, out of nowhere, you run out of inspiration.

The day to day minutiae of running a business, and of life in general, gets in the way.

And you miss a few days.

Then a few more.

Then before you know it, you haven't posted for a month.

And your small spike in sales has dropped back down again.

One of the most important things to remember in marketing is CONSISTENCY.

Surprisingly, it is better to have content that is 80% perfect, going out regularly, than to have one awesome piece of content per year.

Deep down, you know this to be true.

When you are consistent with marketing, you know that your small spike in sales stays there, and you see the slight spike increase each month.

So how can you keep having new ideas for content so that you can be consistent?

  1. Take inspiration from everyday life.

Perhaps a client asks a question - make a note of it and then answer it publicly on your blog rather than 1-1.

  2. Are you developing a new product or launching a new service - maybe you could document the process?

  3. Have an ongoing list of ideas to address in the future, and intersperse with behind the scenes' real' content.

  4. Make a list of all of the processes your customers may go through with your business. For example, an estate agent could use any part of the complicated process of buying and selling a home to create content. Maybe you own a bakery - you could make a list of recipes that could be made at home?

Make sure that you have a good mix of content, from real life behind the scenes stories to helpful information and tutorials or 'How to' content. This will help you show that you are an expert in your industry while also keeping it real and showing the personality behind the brand.

Allowing the reality of your business to show will be relatable.

Don't be afraid to be 'human' on your social media. It is supposed to be 'social' and doesn't have to be stuffy and professional all of the time.

I have a list of potential topics that I could write about. That could be a fully formed idea with points to cover or a single word that could spark inspiration and develop an idea!

I take inspiration from my conversations with my clients and their questions.

I think about the projects I am working on and how I can explain things to my audience.

I note the struggles that I am having, and once I have overcome them, I can write about them. If I come across something tricky in my business, other people are likely having the same difficulties.

Your post will be found online by answering those questions, and perhaps the people who read your post will follow your page. Then maybe they will read future posts, sign up for your emails, and maybe, just maybe, they will buy from you!

All because you posted a blog post!

It is actually a small thing, but it could attract many new customers to your business, and really, it is not difficult.

You already know everything about your products, business, industry. You are simply showing that you have knowledge and experience - you are the expert.
