How do you keep your marketing consistent without it consuming every waking moment?

You are expected run your business whilst posting to social media platforms everyday, and writing a blog for the website and publishing adverts and sending the copy to the local newspaper, and..., and....

It is so important to keep your marketing consistent. If you only post once in a blue moon it is possible that no one will even see it. Social media algorithms work in a way that rewards consistent regular posters and shows that content to a larger audience than someone who barely posts at all.

More importantly, it shows that your business is present, professional and thriving if your marketing and content is up to date - how many times have you seen a website 'news' section that hasnt been updated for 7 months? What have they been doing for 7 months to have no news? Have they closed down? Or do they just not care about the business anymore?

Being consistent shows that your company knows what it is doing and is trustworthy and reliable.

But it is a never ending stream of work to keep on top of marketing and content as well as your actual job.

The key is planning and organisation. I know, it seems so obvious.

I like to plan all marketing and content a month ahead. I use a content calendar to plan it all out and this takes me less than an hour a month. Then, I schedule a time in the diary to sit and focus on producing all content for that month, and schedule the posts. And then I forget about it until next month!

Sounds simple, and it is really. You just need to be disciplined and organised, and get it done!

To help with the planning I like to keep an ideas list. All ideas about new content or adverts that I might want to do in the future. When I sit with the content calendar I also have the list with me, and I simply take items off the list and write them on the calendar. This way I know exactly what I am supposed to be putting together and for when.

The next step is just to get on with it. I find a huge cup of tea and some instrumental music helps to focus. I write all content in one go, then create all images, then do all scheduling. Batching similar tasks means that you are in the right head space to be doing that kind of work rather than hopping around from one task to another.

A whole month of content can be written and scheduled in a day or so, leaving you to run your business for the rest of the month without thinking about it.

I have created a content calendar template for you to download and use, to help you to get on top of your marketing. Click here for your free copy.
