Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Have you updated your Google listing recently?

Perhaps you didn’t even know that you have a Google listing?

You could be missing out on valuable sales if you don’t keep your listing up to date.

Most people start their search for things on Google these days (although other search engines are available) which is why your business must have a proper, updated Google listing.

If your business hasn't set up your Google listing you miss out on a valuable marketing tool to drive customers to your business. This listing is like a preview of your website, and it is free to set up. But if you have not updated it properly it will make your business look amateur and could result in missed sales!

You know the type I mean - when you search for a company on google you get the different pages, in a list on the left-hand side of the screen. But on the right-hand side, there is a listing for the specific company.

This is a Google business listing and it allows a business to upload photos and posts about what they do, as well as direct links to the phone number or websites.

Try googling your business name and see what comes up - if you have never looked at it before you might be surprised by what you find! This is how your brand is being presented on Google before a customer even makes it onto your website, so it needs to be professional and up to date.

If you don't have it set up properly then Google will try to piece together the information for you. The image used might be a street view image of your registered address. The phone numbers and opening hours might not be accurate.

I have just worked with a client that has relocated to new premises during lockdown so the google listing was out of date, with an incorrect address and website address, and there were no images at all.

So we updated the listing. We added the new contact and business information, linked the new website and added images and the logo. We also added opening hours and started to ask customers to leave reviews.

Within 3 days those images had been viewed by hundreds of people. That was hundreds of people that have searched online for that business and otherwise might not have found it!

Setting up your Google listing properly is not as tricky as it might seem. Simply visit 'Google my business' and register yourself as the owner of the business. Google will send you a verification code through the post. When it arrives you type in the code and you can update your page whenever you need to. You can add information directly to this google listing, including special offers or images of work that you have carried out. You can also add your logo, website links and a list of services that you offer. Best of all, you can add Keywords that will help new customers to find you when they search for services or products that you offer.
